Position Announcement - Chancel Choir Director, Part-Time

Position Summary:

Leads and directs the activities of the FCC Chancel Choir each week, including music selection for choral anthems and special music. The chancel choir offers choral music at the weekly 10:30 AM worship service, in accordance with the church's liturgical and pastoral thematic direction. FCC employs a mainline Protestant worship content during its 10:30 service, using traditional sacred music of the Church as well as contemporary selections for hymns and choral anthems.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Works cooperatively with the ministerial staff and Worship Department to select and acquire music resources for the chancel choir's performances at the weekly 10:30 service, as well as special services such as Christmas and Easter.

2. Recruit new chancel choir members and retain existing members.

3. Prepare for and conduct rehearsals each Wednesday evening and other times as required.

4. Work cooperatively with and manage the work of the organist and pianist in their work for the 10:30 service and special services.

5. Perform other duties as required to fulfill the responsibilities of FCC, including prayerful support of the church, its membership, and its ministry.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

1. Prior experience planning, leading, conducting, and instructing adult choral performances of a sacred nature.

2. Demonstrated musical ability and talent; the ability to read and teach music. The ability to play a musical instrument is desired but not required.

3. The ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the church organization, and the ability to effectively manage time pressures and deadlines.

4. The desire and ability to fulfill the functions of this position, including flexible scheduling for additional weekend and evening hours, as needed.
