David was born in the Luling, Texas, in the Luling Hospital, December 30, 1941, the son of Orbin Raymond Voight and Gladys Clark. He graduated from McCallum High School, June 3, 1960, in Austin, Texas.

David joined the Army National Guard in August 1962 and served six years.

He married the love of his life, Sherry Lorraine Yates, on October 2, 1964, at First Southern Presbyterian Church in Austin Texas.

David worked for DPS, where he met his wife. Then moved on to work for TRACOR and additional organizations within the State of Texas. David wrapped his career up in 1996 with 32 years of service at Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR).

David loved to sing. He sang from the time he got up until he went to bed. Sometimes, he sang his wife to sleep. He knew every word to every old country song that came on the radio or played on his grandson’s phone. Never missed a beat. David truly missed his calling as we all loved to hear him sing. He loved to fish, travel all over the US, and Canada, in their motor home. He loved cars, especially mustangs.

David was a Deacon and property manager at First Christian Church, and attended services along with his loving wife, Sherryn.

David spent a portion of his final months in the care of Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation of New Braunfels. David’s family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation of New Braunfels for their kindness and excellent care that they had provided to David. They especially send their deepest appreciation to Kendra, head nurse and all the aids for their thoughtfulness, comfort and truly going the extra mile for David.
